Elizabeth Weglein serves as the chief executive officer of the Elizabeth Cooney Personnel Agency. The granddaughter of the agency’s founder and namesake, Elizabeth’s passion for the family business dates back to the childhood. Today, she not only upholds her family’s strong tradition of service, but she has forever strengthened the industry as an advocate for higher standards in recruitment, training and licensing. Remaining committed to the three basic tenets upon which the company was founded – trust, integrity and excellence – Elizabeth has helped build the agency into one of the most respected and reliable in the industry.
As CEO, Elizabeth provides clear leadership for the company, overseeing and coordinating all of the agency’s affairs and interacting with clients, care providers, facilities, and corporations. While the agency has been licensed by the Department of Labor since 1967, it was under Elizabeth’s direction that it became one of very few agencies recognized by the state of Maryland as both a Nurse Referral Service Agency and a Nurse Staff Agency.
Beyond her responsibilities to the agency, Elizabeth possesses an unyielding commitment to the community. She is the president of the Maryland National Capital Home Care Association; treasurer of the Maryland Respite Care Coalition; member of the Maryland Caregivers Support Coordinating Council; and the immediate past chair and current director of the state’s Certified Nursing Assistants Advisory Board, Maryland Board of Nursing. In 2005, the governor named Elizabeth to the commission of Maryland’s first Maryland Commission on Disabilities. That same year, she won the 2005 Health Care Heroes Award for her commitment to the healthcare delivery system.
The Elizabeth Cooney Agency is ranked by the National Association of Women Business Owners among the top 1 percent of all its businesses in terms of longevity and success, which is also testimony to Elizabeth’s passion for her work.
